Resolved Question: Why does everyone think that the Oklahoma City Thunder will fail when they aren’t going to?
Seriously! Okay, maybe the Sonics WERE stolen from Seattle. But, people are acting all irrational like the people of Oklahoma City all did something wrong.
Let’s be logical. Has there ever been an example in North American sports history where a team has moved to a city, failed, and then moved back to its original city? NO! So why does everyone seem to think that this will happen to Oklahoma City when:
1. Capacity for NBA games in Oklahoma City has never dipped below 90% (except in extreme weather conditions, such as icy roads).
2. The city actually boosted itself as the top contender for the next NBA team when the New Orleans Hornets were amongst the top 12 in league attendance.
3. Oklahoma City just overwhelmingly approved an new upgrade for the Ford Center.
a. The Ford Center was originally built to attract an NBA team to Oklahoma City anyway, and.
b. The City of Seattle (in no way am I blaming their fans, just the local government) refused to update Key Arena.
I can see why everyone is mad, but I think that everyone’s anger is directed at the wrong people! Do not blame Oklahoma City for taking the Sonics! Instead, blame Greg Nichols, Howard Schultz (the man PRIMARILY RESPONSIBLE) and Clay Bennett.
